Save Our Marine Life Mentelle Basin Marine Sanctuary Campaign
July 26 | Posted by admin | Protest ActionA group of Margaret River locals has decided it is time to make a big statement against oil drilling off our coast and speak out about the lack of protection proposed for our precious marine environment. With your help, we can print this attention-grabbing full page advertisement in the Margaret River Mail very soon.

The threat of risky deep-water drilling for oil still looms over Margaret River and the entire Capes Region.
But now we have one really good shot at wiping it out forever. If we can get Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke to declare a marine sanctuary over The Mentelle Basin WP10-26 oil leases then the risk of a Gulf of Mexico type oil disaster will be averted permanently. Oil drilling will never be allowed to proceed. Instead, marine sanctuaries will ensure healthy and abundant marine life and a strong future for our vibrant tourism industry.
How do we get him to do this? Quite simply we need to make a bold public statement which grabs his attention and floods his office with emails calling for action via Save Our Marine Life:
The government’s deadline for public comments on marine sanctuaries is August 8, so we need to act fast.
Please join with other members of the South West community and help this advert get printed in the Augusta Margaret River Mail on August 3. We need 30 people who can each contribute $50 to cover costs. If you are able to help, you’re invited to put your name on it to press home the strength of community feeling on this issue.
You can read here how you can offer support.

If you can afford more than $50, that would be great. If you don’t want to put your name on the advert but want to support it, that would also be fine.
Please help us prevent waves of oil rolling in through the surf breaks off Prevelly, exhausted marine mammals and sea birds struggling in black tar balls, and the international TV coverage of a ‘Gulf of Mexico’ style oil disaster and its impact on South West’s local economy…
..and please please please make a submission to Tony Bourke before August 8th! Tony.Burke.MP@aph.gov.au
